SiteScreen
Webpage rendering API for teams

Reliable webpage renders
for dashboards, QA and SaaS.

SiteScreen turns URLs into screenshots and PDFs using real browsers, not HTML snapshots. A focused B2B API with configuration, observability and pricing tuned for product teams — not hobby scripts.

Rendering technology

How SiteScreen creates high-fidelity renders

Under the hood, SiteScreen runs a managed fleet of headless browsers. Each API call becomes a short-lived, isolated browser session with your requested configuration. We optimize for correctness first, then for throughput.

1. Request comes in

You call the API with a URL and options: viewport size, device profile, format, wait strategy, headers, cookies (for your own properties) and more. We validate the payload, attach a trace ID and route it to the render queue for your account.

2. Browser session & lifecycle

A headless Chromium instance is started in a sandbox with the requested settings. We navigate to the URL, execute JavaScript, load fonts and styles, and watch the network and DOM until your chosen “ready” condition is met.

  • Network idle or fixed delay
  • Wait for a CSS selector to appear
  • Hard timeouts to avoid stalls

3. Capture & delivery

Once the page is ready, we capture a screenshot or PDF at device resolution, apply optional cropping, encode the output and stream it back. You can choose to keep assets for a short time window or to treat every render as truly ephemeral.

Why it’s not trivial

Rendering the modern web at scale is surprisingly hard

Taking a manual screenshot is simple. Doing the same thousands of times per hour, for heavily scripted sites, without slowing down or breaking, is an engineering problem of its own.

Single-page apps, charts and late content

  • Modern apps render UI on the client side, fetch data asynchronously and redraw components after the “load” event — capturing too early means empty charts and placeholders.
  • Dashboards rely on canvas, WebGL or virtualized lists. These don’t show up correctly in HTML-only renderers; you need real browsers and tuned wait conditions.
  • Background polling and websockets can keep the network “busy” forever; robust renderers need intelligent stop rules to avoid hanging jobs.

Performance, stability & cost

  • Every render consumes CPU, memory and I/O. Without pooling, concurrency management and backpressure, screenshot clusters quickly become overloaded and unstable.
  • At B2B scale, a short outage or latency spike can break dashboards, emails and QA pipelines. Monitoring and graceful degradation matter as much as raw speed.
  • You also need predictable costs. SiteScreen is designed to let you forecast spend based on units of “successful render jobs”, not fuzzy CPU hours.
Boundaries

What SiteScreen can’t — and won’t — do

No rendering engine can capture everything or bypass every barrier. We prefer to be explicit about our limitations so you can design around them.

Technical & product limits

We focus on legal, reachable content

In many cases we will return a screenshot of the problem or a clear error code, not a “magic workaround”.

  • Private content. We can only reach pages that are accessible from our infrastructure. For internal apps you control, you may supply cookies or headers — you remain responsible for that data.
  • Paywalls & hard CAPTCHAs. We don’t try to defeat paywalls, CAPTCHAs, 2FA or similar protection. Those pages are usually considered non-renderable.
  • Robots & rate limits. We respect robots.txt where applicable and encourage customers to follow third-party terms of service and reasonable usage.
  • Network blocking. If a site or CDN blocks our IP ranges, we can’t guarantee a successful render.
Security & acceptable use

We are not a scraping weapon

  • No abusive crawling. SiteScreen is not built for massive anonymous crawling or spammy screenshot farms.
  • Sensitive data stays yours. URLs, headers and cookies you send are isolated per customer and processed over HTTPS. We provide options to minimize or avoid storage.
  • Legal compliance. We don’t support phishing, credential harvesting, spam or other illegal use. Abuse may lead to suspension of access.
If you need a one-off hack that “sometimes works” and often breaks, SiteScreen is probably not the right fit.
Why SiteScreen

Why teams prefer an API like this instead of DIY scripts

You can wire up headless browsers yourself — but then you also own autoscaling, monitoring, timeouts, IP reputation and on-call duties. SiteScreen is for teams that want a dedicated, boring-reliable rendering layer.

Developer-friendly API

A small, focused surface area — URL in, render out. Per-request overrides for advanced cases, structured JSON errors, and clear versioning so your integration remains stable.

  • Language-agnostic HTTP API
  • Per-project API keys and quotas
  • Trace IDs for every render job

Built for B2B use cases

Our roadmap includes SLAs for higher tiers, team access, audit trails and billing suitable for agencies, SaaS vendors and internal platform teams.

  • Usage-based pricing with volume discounts
  • Separate tiers for steady vs. bursty workloads
  • Custom plans for high-volume partners

Privacy & observability

We treat renders as part of your infrastructure, not as our data. You get proper metrics and insight into what happens when something goes wrong.

  • Per-account dashboards (planned)
  • Webhook or email alerts for failures (planned)
  • Configurable asset retention policies

Join the SiteScreen early access

We’re looking for teams who rely on screenshots or PDFs inside their products: dashboards, monitoring systems, reporting tools, QA and visual tests. Tell us briefly what you’re building and how many renders per month you expect.

We’ll reply with next steps, current limitations and a realistic view of what SiteScreen can already do for you today.

A couple of sentences is enough — we just want to understand the shape of your workload.
